November 23, 2023, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne hosted a landmark meeting with the nascent-established Society of Filipino Engineers in Australia (SFEA) on 23 November 2023.
Consul General Maria Lourdes M. Salcedo, Consul Ralph Vincent C. Abarquez, and Consul Jan Sherwin P. Wenceslao welcomed Engineer Alfie Tilan and ten other Australian-chartered and accredited Filipino-Australian engineers. Additionally, thirty engineers from various Australian regions and states joined the meeting virtually. The event marked a notable step towards fostering professional opportunities for Filipino engineers in Australia.
The meeting discussed the formal establishment of SFEA, as well as a potential Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with Engineers Australia (EA). This agreement would enable Filipino chartered engineers and their Australian counterparts to reciprocally gain professional recognition and practice in both countries, underscoring the potential for Filipino engineers to enhance global mobility and professional recognition.
The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne commends the establishment of SFEA and its commitment to advancing the professional interests of Filipino engineers in Australia.
