PINAY VLOGGER, PINOY KIDS JOIN CONSULATE IN VIRTUAL SINULOG FESTIVAL

PR-01-2022

The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne revisited last January 14, 2021 the Fiesta Filipinas cultural program this time, featuring the Sinulog festival.

Fiesta Filipinas is a joint cultural diplomacy initiative of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, the Department of Tourism, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

For the month of January, Fiesta Filipinas celebrates the Sinulog, Ati-Atihan, and Dinagyang Festivals from the Visayan Region of the Philippines.  Sinulog is one of the grandest and most colorful cultural and religious festivals in the Philippines held on the third Sunday of January. The celebration is dedicated to the Santo Niño Catholic or the patron saint of the whole province of Cebu.

For the revisited Sinulog festival episode, the Consulate invited Filipino children to enhance their appreciation of Filipino culture by making their own D-I-Y Sinulog /Dinagyang/ Ati-Atihan headdress.  This colorful and flamboyant headdress is worn by the Fiesta Filipinas participants, dancers and even festival goers.  Prior to the craft-making, the children viewed a video on the Sinulog festival.

The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne also invited a well-known Filipino vlogger Princess Ann Melchor, to participate and share her virtual experience with her growing audiences.  Ms. Melchor is a social media influencer based in Melbourne Australia, focusing mainly on beauty, fashion, food and lifestyle.
