LAUNCH OF THE FILIPINO-AUSTRALIAN LAWYERS ASSOCIATION (FALAW) PROMOTES BROADER REPRESENTATION OF FILIPINO LEGAL PROFESSIONALS IN VICTORIA

July 5, 2023, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne hosted the successful launch of the Filipino-Australian Lawyers Association (FALAW) on July 5, 2023. The event saw the attendance of over 40 guests from the law profession, FALAW Executive Committee members, representatives from the Filipino community, media personnel, and luminaries of the Victorian judiciary such as The Hon. Justice John Ross Champion, Judge Supreme Court of Victoria, The Hon. Justice Timothy James Francis McEvoy, Judge Federal Court of Australia (Melbourne) and Ms. Tania Wolf, President, Law Institute of Victoria.

The event featured insightful speeches highlighting the significant impact of the legal profession on Australian multiculturalism, strengthening bilateral relations between Australia and the Philippines, contributions of Filipino lawyers in Victoria, and what assistance FALAW may provide to Filipino-Australians.

FALAW is a non-profit association with a mission to unite the Australian-Filipino legal community, foster diversity within the profession, and advocate for Filipino-Australian interests. The association’s primary objectives include supporting its members in their legal careers, promoting diversity, and underscoring the contributions of Filipino-Australian legal professionals.

The Consulate General remains committed to promoting broader representation of Filipino professionals in Victoria, including within the legal community. Such events will continue to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments and contributions of the Filipino community in Australia.
