PR-17-2025
20 August 2025, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – The newly assumed Philippine Consul General in Melbourne, Jesus R. S. Domingo, assisted by Consuls Ralph Vincent C. Abarquez and Jan Sherwin P. Wenceslao, met with officers of the Society of Filipino Engineers in Australia (SFEA), led by National President Engr. Alfie Tilan. The courtesy meeting served as both an introduction of the Consul General and an opportunity to strengthen ties with the growing community of Filipino professionals in Australia.
SFEA, established in 2023 with the encouragement of the Consulate, has grown to around 170 members nationwide, most of them based in Victoria. The organization brings together Filipino engineers from various fields and provides a platform for networking, mutual support, and professional development. It also assists newly arrived engineers in navigating accreditation processes and adapting to professional life in Australia.
In the meeting, SFEA shared its ongoing efforts to support Filipino engineers and to promote recognition of Philippine qualifications and expertise in Australia. The group reaffirmed its commitment to contributing not only to the Filipino community but also to Australian society at large.
Consul General Domingo commended SFEA’s initiatives and emphasized the Consulate’s support for their programs. He also highlighted his personal advocacy of encouraging, mainstreaming, and obtaining recognition for individual Filipino excellence—both in Australia and worldwide. He underscored that the success of Filipino professionals abroad is a source of pride for the Philippines and a vital contribution to strengthening bilateral ties.
Both the Consulate and SFEA expressed their commitment to continued collaboration to enhance the profile of Filipino professionals, expand opportunities for education and employment, and further contribute to the broader Australian community.
