04 August 2024 MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne was honored to host a delegation from the Philippine judiciary as part of a broader Study Visit focused on Access to Justice for Disadvantaged Groups, Family Mediation, and Social Services and Counseling from 5 to 9 August 2024 in Melbourne and Sydney.
The delegation, comprising 13 members and led by Hon. Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, and Hon. Angelene Mary W. Qimpo-Sale, Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals, aims to enhance their understanding of Australia’s legal frameworks and social services.
A special Meet-and-Greet Engagement Session organized by the Consulate on 04 August 2024 provided a platform for the delegation to interact with members of the Filipino Australian Lawyers Association Inc. (FALAW), a professional organization that aims to foster unity and diversity in the legal profession and advocates for Filipino-Australian interests.
The session included discussions about FALAW’s initiatives such as networking events, professional development workshops, and a recent seminar on Philippine and Australian Property Law hosted by the Consulate General on 01 August 2024. Associate Justice Lazaro-Javier candidly shared insights into the delegation’s objectives and the Philippine judiciary’s latest initiatives and reforms aimed at improving access to justice, particularly for disadvantaged groups.
Executive Chef Fred Batalona of Barangay and Palay, a celebrated Filipino catering and pop-up restaurant in Melbourne, catered the event. These initiatives support the professional growth of the Filipino professional community and strengthen community ties.
Through events like this, the Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne reaffirms its commitment to enhancing support to Filipino-Australians wanting to make a difference in the community.
