PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN MELBOURNE REVISITS PANAGBENGA FESTIVAL

PR-05-2022

The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne revisited the online Fiesta Filipinas last February 18, this time featuring the colorful Panagbenga festival of Baguio City.

Fiesta Filipinas is a joint cultural diplomacy initiative of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, the Department of Tourism, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

The Panagbenga Festival is annually celebrated in Baguio in the month of February. It is a month-long flower festival, featuring floats adorned with flowers, street dancing, and colorful flower-inspired costumes,

Panagbenga is inspired by the Bendian, an Ibaloi (native tribe) dance of celebration that originated in the Cordilleras.

At the Consulate’s version of the event, young participants virtually experienced the Festival through video clips and a DIY tutorial on dried flower arrangement.

The activity sought to enhance their appreciation of Filipino culture among Filipino Australian youth participants.

For the event, the Consulate also invited Filipino vlogger, Ms. Rosa Almencion, to host the short program.

Ms. Almencion is a mommy Youtuber based in Melbourne Australia who makes lifestyle and travel videos.

She also participated in the Fiesta Filipinas Lami-lamihan and Masskara Festivals and uploaded her unboxing and reaction videos about the events. Her Youtube channel is Rosa All Day. – END
