DOT SYDNEY JOINS OZTEK DIVE CONFERENCE AND OZDIVE SHOW IN MELBOURNE

PR-38-2022

The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne, represented by Deputy Consul General Anthony Mandap and Cultural Officer Maria Cristina Malvas, supported the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Sydney’s participation at the recent OZTek Dive Conference and OzDive Show held on 1 and 2 October 2022 at the Melbourne Conference and Convention Center.

The OZTek Advanced Diving Conference focuses on the latest trends in diving, and the technology used by underwater explorers in their bid to unlock the ocean’s secrets. This conference has become synonymous with diving excitement and adventure, featuring an international cast of speakers who are acknowledged diving experts.

DOT-Sydney’s booth, adorned with breath-taking photos of renowned Philippine dive sites, drew considerable attention from the guests and participants, owing to the country’s competitiveness in this industry. Atmosphere Resorts, a dive tour operator out of Dumaguete City, shared the DOT booth, giving out flyers and other promotional materials.

Other companies, like Dive Adventures and Scuba Diving Magazine, also featured Philippine dive sites like Siargao, Anda (Pangasinan), Anilao, Bohol and Tubbataha, giving an indication of how the country stacks up against the competition. There was, understandably, a predominance of tour operators promoting Australian diving destinations.

The event showcased a surprising variety of diving merchandise, including tour packages, technology, diving suits and accessories, equipment and other paraphernalia, and even artwork developed from underwater photographs.

Guests also had an opportunity to try virtual reality (VR) diving. Those who tried were amazed by what seemed to be real-life experience. The participating businesses kept true to the event’s theme – “to inspire, enthrall, educate and entertain.”

OZTek is an annual event awaited by diving enthusiasts and merchants alike.
