PHILIPPINES-AUSTRALIA FORUM PANEL HIGHLIGHTS HISTORY OF THE FILIPINO-AUSTRALIAN DIASPORA AND PHILIPPINE MIGRATION

23 June 2023, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – The Philippines-Australia Forum (PAF) at La Trobe University, in collaboration with the Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne successfully conducted a hybrid Panel Discussion on the History of the Filipino-Australian Diaspora and Philippine Migration on 23 June 2023. The event, which traced the growth of the Filipino-Australian community and explored the history of Philippine migration, marked the finale of a series of harmonized activities celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence.

Attracting a mix of in-person attendees and virtual participants, the event featured notable guest speakers including Ms. Melba Marginson, Dr. Kristen Aquino, Mr. Carl Anacin, Dr. Ana Labrador, and Mr. Trevor Hogan. Their contributions sparked engaging discussions with both the in-person and virtual audience members, who shared their unique perspectives and experiences as part of the Filipino-Australian community.

The event culminated with a poignant performance by Filipino-Australian poet Mr. Matcho Makata and creative dancer Lil Strongside, vividly showcasing the experience of Filipino artists and migrants in Australia.

Throughout the series of harmonized events this June 2023, the Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne celebrates with the Filipino community in Australia the 125th Anniversary of Philippine Independence, honoring the richness of our culture and the unity of our community.
