PH Consul General Meets with Victoria Member of Parliament
and Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer

09 MARCH 2023 – Melbourne, Australia – The Philippine Consul General to Melbourne, Maria Lourdes M. Salcedo, held a meeting with the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Mr. Paul Edbrooke, MP, on 09 March 2023 at the Parliament House of Victoria to discuss the strengthening of the Philippines-Australia relations.

During the meeting, Consul General Salcedo and Mr. Edbrooke discussed the importance of the bilateral ties between the Philippines and the State of Victoria, particularly in the areas of trade, tourism and investment. They also exchanged views on how to promote cultural exchanges and educational cooperation. She also requested the support of the Victorian government for the 1-2-5 Harmonized Philippine Independence Day celebrations in June 2023.

Consul General Salcedo expressed her appreciation for the warm and friendly relations between the Philippines and Australia and reiterated the Philippines’ commitment to further enhance the partnership with the State of Victoria.

Mr. Edbrooke welcomed the Consul General and affirmed the Victorian government’s strong support for strengthening the Philippines-Australia relations. He acknowledged the significant contribution of the Filipino community in Victoria and Australia, particularly in the areas of health, education, and community services. Director Sarah Sahely of Global Victoria and Consul Jan Wenceslao were present during the meeting.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing their commitment to continue working together to further deepen the Philippines-Australia relationship. END
