To build upon the goodwill created by the historic and successful harmonized events to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence in June, Consul General Maria Lourdes Salcedo recently visited a couple of city mayors and discussed ways for enhanced relations.

On 20 September 2023, accompanied by Filipino Community leaders Eddie Atacador and Arlene Lucas, she was received by Greater Dandenong Mayor Eden Foster and CEO Jacqui Weatherill.
The Consul General expressed appreciation for the Council’s support to the various events of the 125th Philippine National Day, including the use of the Springvale Town Hall for the 125 Family Open Day on 18 June 2023. She invited the Mayor to visit Iloilo or other Philippine cities for a possible sister-city partnership which could spur investment, tourism and business partnerships. Greater Dandenong has great economic potentials, generating an estimated A$51.79 billion in annual economic output.

In Morwell, a township of Latrobe City, Consul General Salcedo met with Mayor Kellie O’Callaghan on 23 September 2023 at the event of the Samahang Pilipino Australians sa Gippsland (SPAG) called Miss Australasia Quest and Little Miss Princess Presentation Night supported by funding from the Council. Prior to the event, the two officials discussed topics concerning the Filipino community in the Mayor’s jurisdiction, including a proposal for a Rizal landmark in a suitable garden/park in the city’s surrounds.
The Mayor also witnessed the oath-taking of 23 new dual citizens under RA 9225 and delivered her congratulatory remarks.
